The Muriel Lake Basin Management Society was formed to address the seriously declining lake water level, water quality issues and decreased fish spawning habitat. The activities of this organization will be to increase awareness and understanding about the water issues at Muriel Lake, and to improve and maintain the state of the lake and its surrounding wetlands so that it may return to an ecologically healthy watershed.
Our spring newsletter for 2024 has been emailed out and attached here as well. 2024 Muriel Lake Basin Management Society newsletter. If you are not on our mailing list, and would like to be, please reach out to us here or on our Facebook page (Save Muriel Lake).

The Alberta Lake Management Society (ALMS) has released the 2022 study of the water quality in Muriel Lake as well as other lakes in the Lakeland area.
The water quality was found to be okay, but not as good as it was 50 years ago. The arsenic level is exceeded the CCME protection for aquatic life (Canadian Council for Ministers of the Environment) guidelines by double. The high limit is 5 micrograms per litre and Muriel Lake was at 10 micrograms per litre. While this is high, the lake water quality overall is still good.
As well Peter Cordingley, our president of MLBMS made a presentation to ALMS in February and the entire presentation can be viewed following this YouTube link: (Peter’s presentation starts at the 23:25 minute mark)
Hello everyone! The last day to drop off your bottles/refundables at the south side landfill station will be this Sunday October 2.
